Huskies No. 2 in First Women\’s Basketball Regional Poll

INDIANAPOLIS — The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team ranks second in the inaugural NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Poll of 2010-11. The Huskies own a 14-2 record and trail only Quincy (15-1) in the regional poll.

The NCAA Division II regional rankings are determined by a committee made up of coaches and administrators from the institutions within the region. Criteria for the rankings include record against Division II opponents, record against other teams from the region, strength of schedule and head-to-head results.

Eight teams from each of the nation’s eight regions will make up the field of 64 selected for the 2011 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship. Five Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams currently appear in the top eight of the Midwest Region: No. 2 Tech, No. 3 Lake Superior State, No. 4 Grand Valley State, No. 7 Hillsdale and No. 8 Ashland. The other three from the top eight are from the Great Lakes Valley Conference: No. 1 Quincy, No. 5 Drury and No. 6 Wisconsin-Parkside.

New region rankings will be released every week until the field of 64 is announced on March 6 on NCAA.com.

Michigan Tech was the No. 1-ranked team and host of the 2010 NCAA Midwest Regional.

The Huskies will play two home games this week, hosting Northwood tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Hillsdale Saturday (Jan. 29) at 3 p.m.
