Emerald Ash Borer Found in the Soo
U.S. customs and border patrol officials at the Soo have made a capture.
Not of someone, but of something — the emerald ash borer.
In a slightly tongue-in-cheek press release, the agency uses terms such as ‘capture’, ‘alien’ and ‘interception’.
This is the first confirmed case of the emerald ash borer at a port of entry in the United States.
The exotic wood-boring beetle is native to China.
It was discovered in southeastern Michigan in 2002.
Over 30 million ash trees have been destroyed by it.
Agriculture specialists at the International Bridge discovered what they called an unwanted alien hitching a ride in a load of firewood entering the country on July 29th.
