VANCOUVER, B.C. – Former Northern Michigan University student-athlete Caitlin Compton placed 30th out of 78 competitors in the 10K freestyle cross country skiing event at the Vancouver Olympics Monday. She covered the course with a time of 26:49.1 to be the top finishing American. Charlotte Kalla from Sweden won the gold medal in the event (24:58.4).
Compton’s finish was the highest for an American since the 1984 Olympic Games when Judy Rabinowitz placed 26th. This is Compton’s first Olympic Games.
She competed for the Wildcats in both cross country running and skiing from 1999-04 where she was an All-American in both sports.
