3 Defendants in Condo Fraud Case Cleared
3 of the 5 people in the Marquette condominium fraud case are off the hook tonight.
Karl Numinen is the attorney for one of the 3, Ryan Bruns.
Numinen contacted us at about 5pm to say prosecutors have dropped the charges against Bruns, as well as Chad LaVallie and Brian Swift.
When UGN News spoke with those 3 men at their arraignment, they said they’d invested in Hawks Ridge but weren’t involved at all in its day-to-day operation.
They also said it was their concerns about how the development was being run that got the investigation going.
The charges against the other 2 defendants — Michael Gokey and Joel Westrom — still stand.
They’re accused of contractor fraud and obtaining money using false pretenses.
The preliminary exam in the case will continue on December 1st.
And when it does, it’ll only involve those 2.
