Time Off in Alpha Village Clerk Case

A former village official in Iron County has a 6-week break in his court case.

37-year-old Tommie McCarthy used to be the village clerk in Alpha.

McCarthy is accused of embezzlement of $100,000 or more and embezzlement of taxes or other public money.

At his preliminary exam yesterday, his attorney told the court McCarthy used up his legal retainer months ago and needed a court-appointed lawyer.

He’s since been assigned new counsel.

His preliminary exam has been rescheduled for December 29th so the new attorney can get familiar with the case first.

State troopers from the Iron River Post have said during the case that McCarthy was still living in Alpha and serving as the village clerk there at the time of the alleged incident.
