Charges Dropped in Bogus MTU Rape Case

The Michigan Tech student who falsely claimed she was raped on campus a few months ago won’t have to face criminal charges.

19-year-old Jennifer Stigers had been accused of filing a false police report.

But the charge has been dropped.

Houghton County Prosecutor Michael Makinen is saying he spoke privately with everyone involved.

After those talks, he felt it would be best to drop the case.

Police arrested Stigers in April after she recanted her story that she’d been raped in March in a parking lot on the Tech campus.

If she’d been convicted, she could have faced up to 4 years in prison.
