Unique gifts available at the MACC Holiday Art Sale

MARQUETTE — If you’re looking to get an early start on Christmas shopping, or even if you’re looking for something for yourself, the Marquette Arts and Culture Center’s Holiday Art Sale might have just the thing.

Artists were setting up their booths Friday afternoon for the center’s art sale. It will feature 38 artists and fills the lower level of the Peter White Public Library. Paintings, jewelry, note cards, trinkets, and everything in between will be on sale.

One artist has been coming to the art sale for seven years and finds her inspiration right here in the U.P.

“The U.P…it’s just so…the nature and the colors and the seasons, it’s just a great inspiration for an artist,” Marquette artist Karen J. Jilbert said.

The art sale aims to encourage residents to shop local, support the artistic community, and find unique items.

“Buying local, not only do you support the economy — our city’s economy — (but) you’re also giving a really unique special gift that you’re not going to find anywhere else. It’s made in the U.P.; it’s something totally unique,” MACC community services manager Tiina Harris said. “A lot of these artists sell internationally online, so this is your chance to meet those same artists and buy something right in your own hometown.”

The holiday art sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be free cookies and refreshments for everyone that comes, and the MACC is giving away a poinsettia every hour.
