NEGAUNEE — A group of downtown Negaunee business people have partnered together to bring the public a fun, fall event to Iron Street: Negaunee Oktoberfest.

The first annual Oktoberfest in Negaunee will showcase many of the downtown businesses while honoring German heritage and traditions associated with October. Live music performed by Wil Kilpela and Friends will accompany all of the fun events taking place throughout the day.

“We decided to throw a family oriented event for downtown Negaunee,” said Oktoberfest Coordinator Mary Hanna Ockerman, “we are featuring hay rides, pumpkin painting for the kids, Stein Holding contests, best German costume contest, yodeling contest so lots of activities and things to do for downtown.”

Oktoberfest will also have a Soup Cook Off, that is being put on by the Negaunee Irontown Association. The winner will have their soup featured at Midtown Bakery and Cafe for a week.

The event takes place on Saturday October seventeenth from eleven to six p.m. If you’re looking for more fun afterward, you can go to the Historic Vista Theater, and watch Beerfest on the big screen.
