NMU marks International Education Week

MARQUETTE — This is International Education Week, which is held every year to recognize the benefits of studying abroad.
Northern Michigan University holds events throughout the week. Faculty members held an forum for students at Jamrich Hall this afternoon. An NMU nursing professor has been involved with many trips to Central America, including one to Honduras in 2011 that she showed video of.
“When we’ve traveled to Honduras and also to Belize, you see how important family is and community, and that people may not be rich in material resources, but they’re very rich in relationships they have and that’s very important,” NMU nursing professor Eileen Smit said. “That’s been a shift for students, and my travels remind me of that each time I travel.”
This year is the 15th anniversary of International Education Week. It’s a joint program of the U.S. Departments of State and Education.
