Kids spread holiday cheer with play

MARQUETTE — A local elementary school spread glad tidings and good cheer this morning with an annual holiday play.

Pre-Kindergarten students at Father Marquette Catholic Elementary School performed live nativity play for the school and their parents. The school has held a nativity play for at least a decade.

Teacher Julie Smigiel says her class has been practicing since the beginning of the month for the production.

“We have been preparing since the very first day of December,” Smigiel added, “they got their parts that day, and we started rehearsing their lines and they’ve been working hard ever since.”

ABC Ten was back stage today with the kids as they explained who they were playing and what their characters do in the play.

Annika Neuschwander says, “Angels – fly and they help the shepherds get to baby Jesus.”

Christian Leonard says, “I’m a shepherd, they watch the sheep when baby Jesus is sleeping.”

Solomon Gorsalitz says, “A King – I bring the gold to baby Jesus.”

The kids stuck around for a little bit before heading back to class to take some pictures and visit with their families.
