DNR arrests man for illegally killing a deer and marijuana growing operation

A routine fishing patrol stop by the Department of Natural Resources resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old Iron River man.

The man was arrested February 16th for illegally killing a deer and operating an illegal marijuana growing operation by DNR Officer Dave Painter.

According to the DNR, Officer Painter was patrolling Ice Lake in Iron County, when he came across a group of anglers fishing with too many lines. After talking to the group, he discovered that one person had shot an antlerless deer without a proper license during muzzleloader season.

The DNR says Painter also found drug activity in the suspect’s ice shanty, and at the suspect’s home, where he uncovered an illegal marijuana growing operation and seized 33 marijuana plants.

The man was arrested on the fishing violation, and the Iron County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking warrants for the deer and marijuana violations.
