MARQUETTE — A local library held a kickoff event today to celebrate their brand new garden club.

The Peter White Public Library started a children’s gardening club to give children ages five and up the opportunity to learn how to garden. The children participate in indoor activities while also going outside and gardening. Volunteer master gardeners assist the children throughout the process.

“I think kids of any age love gardening, and getting in the dirt. Said Youth Services Librarian, Sarah Rehborg, “up here in Marquette and in the UP, people are very involved in gardening, so it’s a really good experience for kids and it gets them here doing something unusual for a library activity.”

The event will continue throughout the rest of the summer. Children can stop by the gardening club every Monday from eleven a.m. to noon and is free.
