Candy lovers had a chance to learn how one downtown Marquette shop makes its candies.

Donckers owners Tom Vear and Jen Ray gave a behind-the-scenes look to members of the Northern Center for Lifelong Learning.  They were shown how the candy shop makes candy and chocolates in the store.

People were given a tour, learned the history of the building, and heard what makes Donckers so successful.

“I think its ambiance and the historical nature of it and sort of a warm atmosphere, friendly,” Marquette resident Carol Margrif said.  “(It was interesting to learn) the history of the building, the history of the business, how they’ve grown over the last few years, and the vision for the future.  It covered all those bases and the little salted carmel at the end didn’t hurt any.”

Ray said they like to open the doors of the shop to the community and allow the public to see the daily operations of the store.

The tour concluded with each participant receiving one of Donckers famous carmels.
