Calumet man arrested for Capitol siege involvement
CALUMET — An Upper Peninsula man has been arrested for his involvement with the deadly Capitol siege that took place on January 6th.
Karl Dresch of Calumet was arrested at a traffic stop Tuesday by the FBI, for his involvement in storming the Capitol building.
Dresch posted numerous pictures of himself on his Facebook page while he was at the insurrection, and encouraged others to travel to DC as well.
Dresch even compared the insurrection to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, saying, ”NO EXCUSES! NO RETREAT! NO SURRENDER! TAKE THE STREETS! TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY! 1/6/2021=7/4/1776.”
Dresch has been charged with Knowingly Entering or Remaining on Restricted Grounds Without Lawful authority as well as impeding official functions. This is a misdemeanor punishable by one year in prison, and up to a $100,000 fine.
Violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds, which is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in prison, and up to a $5,000 fine.
Lastly, Obstructing an official proceeding that is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Dresch did not make a plea at his hearing Wednesday. He’s expected to remain in custody until at least Friday.
The FBI is currently attempting to secure a search warrant for Dresch’s vehicle, which was seized when he was taken into custody.
