Basketball camp for those looking for an advent”edge”
ISHPEMING — For those looking to sharpen their skills on the basketball court, a local high school is holding a special camp for players of all skill levels.
The Advantedge Basketball Training Camp kicked off Monday at Ishpeming High School and kids from all grade levels worked on their shooting, passing and dribbling skills to perfection. Organizers of the camp say it’s designed to help players take their game to the next level.
“For a camp like this, it’s for kids who want to get better. It’s not just provided for the school of Ishpeming, which we’d love to have the kids in our building, just because it just represents what we want to do here in this community. But these are kids that are taking time out of their summer vacation to come in and get better with other kids from other communities,” Ishpeming girls basketball coach Ryan Reichel said.
Reichel says the kids perform many different drills with the help of those who coach and play the game. But in the end, it’s all about the basics.
“It’s a lot of fundamentals. You can’t be a great player with lacking fundamentals. It’s just explosion skills…all those little things that make you a better athlete that can be better recognized if you want to get to the next level,” said Reichel.
The final day for the camp will be Wednesday. If you would like to participate, stop by the Ishpeming High School gym between 10 a.m. and noon. The cost is 25 dollars.
