Former MTU Huskies participate in NHL camps
This week, a handful of former Michigan Tech Huskies are trying lock down jobs in the NHL while participating in development camps, including their star netminder from last season.
Jamie Phillips was selected in the 7th round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. In an interview with the Winnipeg Sun, Phillips said he is glad to be a part of a team that does a great job of developing goalies. Jets Assistant General Manager Craig Heisinger praised Phillips for his great final year at Tech and added that it will be interesting to see what he can do again this upcoming season. The 22–year–old finished last year with a 1.74 goals against average and a 93% save percentage.
Other Huskies participating in development camps are 2013 Pittsburgh draft pick Dane Birks, 2013 San Jose draft pick Jake Jackson, 2012 San Jose draft pick Cliff Watson, 2015 Los Angeles pick Matt Roy and 2012 Los Angeles pick Reid Sturos. Tanner Kero and Blake Pietila are also participating in camps with the teams they signed with…the Blackhawks and Devils, respectively.
