One dead after truck flips on US41
BARAGA COUNTY — A man is dead after a single vehicle accident in Baraga County early Sunday morning.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police say a passerby found a Ford F-150 in the ditch on its side with an unresponsive lone occupant inside. The vehicle was discovered on US-41 near Tioga Creek about one mile east of Kings Lake Road in Covington Township around 3:30 a.m.
Police say that upon further investigation, the occupant, Matthew Davidson, 56, of Champion, was found to have died in the crash. Davidson was the varisty girl’s basketball coach and physical education teacher at Republic-Michigamme Schools.
Police add that Davidson’s Ford F-150 truck was traveling east on US-41 when he apparently lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line, and struck a snow bank, flipping the truck.
Covington Fire and Ambulance, L’Anse Fire and Rescue, and Bay Ambulance responded to the scene along with the Michigan State Police.
