Baseball: Indians win, Cubs & Blues lose
GLADWIN – The Gladstone Indians are off and running at the American Legion Baseball Class ‘A’ State Tournament. The Indians defeated Petoskey, 4-0 in their opening game of the tournament.
Sam Pouliot pitched a strong game for Gladstone. He got a much needed strikeout with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Hunter Garling knocked in a couple of runs in the third and Justin Jurek delivered another run on a single in the fourth.
With the win, Gladstone play next on Friday at 6pm against either Hudson or Gladwin.
The Marquette Blues fell to the defending state champs from Hudson, 1-0. Trevor Bratonia pitched seven innings for the Blues. He gave up just a single run while striking out two. Hudson scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning.
Marquette faces Petoskey in a elimination game Friday at 9am.
The Escanaba Cubs fell to Petoskey, 14-5 in their opening game of the tournament. The Cubs face a win or go home scenario on Friday at noon.
