Who Can Get Swine Flu Vaccine?

The federal government is trying to get as much of the H1N1 swine flu vaccine out as possible.

It became available in the U.P. earlier this week.

Corinne Brownell of the Marquette County Health Department’s medical clinic says the agency is focusing on inoculating emergency medical workers before administering any to the general public.

The Health Department will only give the vaccine to healthy kids from 2 to 4 years of age, pregnant women, and caregivers for infants under 6 months.

Even within the latter group, it’s only available to those under the age of 49.

Brownell also says you’ll have to wait a little while to get a seasonal flu shot as well; there aren’t enough doses of it out right now to go around.

In order to get the H1N1 vaccine, you must have an appointment.

Brownell says the Health Department is hoping to receive more swine flu vaccine within the next 2 weeks.
