DEQ Sets Hearing Date on Humboldt Mill Permits
Area residents will get to sound off soon about Kennecott’s desire to re-use the Humboldt Mill.
The DEQ says it’s having a public hearing in early December on Kennecott’s mining permit and air use permit for the mill.
It’s from 4pm to 10pm December 1st at Westwood High School in Ishpeming Township.
Kennecott Minerals bought the old Humboldt Mill last year.
They’re planning to use it to grind the rocks they extract from the proposed Eagle Mine, getting copper and nickel ore from the rocks.
The final word on the permits should come down early next year.
