11% State Funding Cut for Cities, Townships & Villages

Michigan’s 2010 fiscal year is underway without a new budget yet.

There is a temporary budget, giving Lansing 30 days to work out a permanent fix for the year.

We highlighted a couple of the areas last night that’ll see cuts.

But some more have come to light today.

Now an 11% cut to local government is in there.

The Michigan House and Senate both passed that cut in revenue sharing to cities, townships and villages.

We mentioned last night that the Michigan Promise scholarship has been targeted, too.

Both the House and Senate have voted to get rid of it.

NMU is waiting to see if the scholarship is eliminated from the permanent budget before they say what they’ll do.

Michigan Tech says they’ll cover the amount of the scholarship themselves for the fall semester for freshmen and sophomores who have it.
