U.P. Passing on New Hybrid Buses
A new, cleaner way to get around on 4 wheels is coming soon to Michigan’s larger cities.
But don’t expect to see it in the U.P. anytime soon.
It’s hybrid buses.
MDOT has a contract in place to buy 50 small hybrid buses and then sell them at cost to any local transit agency in Michigan that wants them.
The hybrid buses cost about $105,000 each.
DeLynn Klein of the Marquette County Transit Authority says they’re very useful for short trips in congested, urban areas.
But she says they’re a bit smaller than what Marq-Tran looks for in new buses, so the group will pass on buying the buses for now.
