Marquette Township Water Project Goes to Voters
The future of a contentious drinking water project is in the hands of Marquette Township voters on Primary Day.
Voters are choosing whether or not the township can get bond approval for more than $3 million of the $5.3 million project.
The controversial project would add 3 new wells to create a water source for the township independent from the City of Marquette.
It’s something the township has never had.
A big issue for many residents we spoke with today is the rate increase they’d see if the project happens.
It would cost township residents who use the water system $8 more per month for 20 years.
Many residents remain hopeful that today will help the township see how they all feel about the proposed water project.
The polls close at 8 tonight statewide.
