Coast Guard Clearing Way for New Station
You may notice a building missing near Marquette’s Lower Harbor.
That’s because the Coast Guard is making room for their new facility.
In just under an hour this morning, the Coast Guard tore down their boathouse at their station in Marquette.
They tore down the old house to make room for their new station.
BM2 Christopher Connolly says the boathouse is just as old as the station facility itself, going all the way back to 1891.
Connolly says the new station will be a lot better than the current one.
The Guard will be able to work on boats in a climate-controlled environment, instead of needing to be out in the elements for maintenance.
The goal is for the new facility to be up and running by mid-summer.
