Former Hancock School Scorched in Fire
An office building in Hancock that used to be an elementary school takes some damage in an overnight fire.
It happened at the former E.L. Wright Elementary School at the corner of North Lincoln Drive and Elevation Street.
The call came in at about 2:30 this morning.
The owners live on the 3rd floor.
They smelled smoke and heard smoke alarms coming from the bottom 2 floors.
They got out safely, and no firefighters were hurt, either.
The blaze started in the American Red Cross offices on the 1st floor.
No word yet on a possible cause.
Crews cleared the scene in a little over 3 hours.
But Hancock city firefighters were on scene throughout the day investigating.
The building took moderate fire, smoke and water damage.
