Hunter Found After Night in Woods
A hunter is doing OK after getting lost in the woods at night in northern Marquette County.
The sheriff’s office says the 53-year-old John Baker of Traverse City lost track of where he was while he was trying to track a deer.
He was hunting in Powell Township at the time.
Baker was able to call not just his camp, but county search and rescue personnel, with his cell phone.
The problem is, the searchers couldn’t get GPS coordinates from the phone.
Baker made his way in the dark to Gold Mine Lake Road.
At about 12:30 this morning, he met up with rescuers.
He’s back at camp tonight.
