HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech women’s soccer coach Michelle Jacob has
announced that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the team for the 2012 season.
Haley Crites is an outside back at Okemos (Mich.) High School where she helped the Chiefs to two league and district championships. She earned all-district honorable mention honors and all-academic accolades. Crites is also an accomplished skier earning all-state honors twice and was a state finalist in cross country. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the foreign language club.
“We are looking forward to Haley joining the Huskies defense next fall,” said head coach Michelle Jacob. “Haley is an incredibly smart player who has great defensive positioning and the ability to join the attack from the outside. She comes to us from a high quality soccer program at Okemos High School where she played outside back and we believe her experience will transition nicely into our soccer program. She is the type of soccer player you could put anywhere on the field and know she will make a positive impact.”
Korinne Umlauft (OOM-loft) was a second-team all-conference centerback at Kaukauna High School under current Michigan Tech assistant coach Chuck Coan. She played basketball for four years and was the manager for the boy’s soccer team for two years. Umlauft was involved in the Diversity, Leo and Key Clubs. She was a member of DREAM, Kids for Character and was an Ignition Mentor.
“Korinne enjoyed a four-year varsity career at Kaukauna High School,” said Jacob. “Typically playing as center back she has a strong defensive presence with the capability of getting forward with the ball. A team captain her junior and senior year she is a positive, hard working player that leads by example. She brings the attitude, character and work ethic we look for in our recruits. She is excited to rejoin former teammate Lindsey Van Rooy on the soccer field at Michigan Tech.”
