HOUGHTON, Mich. – Junior Sam Hoyt closed out the regular season in grand style scoring a career-high 37 points to lead the Michigan Tech women’s basketball team to an 88-75 win over Northwood Saturday (Feb. 25). The Huskies, who scored a season-high 88 points, improve to 19-6 and 14-5 in the league.
“Sam was unbelievable tonight,” said head coach Kim Cameron. “It’s crazy to think how much Sam has the ball when she scores 37 points and still has eight assists.”
Hoyt shot 13-of-18 from the field, 6-of-9 from behind the arc and converted five of seven free throws. The Arkansaw, Wis., native also had four rebounds, four steals and one block.
Hoyt opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers and a field goal before assisting on the team’s next three baskets.
The Huskies used a 10-point run late in the half to lead 56-44 at halftime. The Timberwolves whittled the Tech lead to as few as eight in the second half, but the Huskies out-scored NU 32-31 over the final 20 minutes.
NU stayed with the Huskies shooting 20-of-24 (83-percent) from the free throw line. Tech shot 7-of-11 (64-percent).
“Today was a game to honor the seniors,” said Cameron after the last regular season home game for the seniors who were honored after the game. “They have led us all season, and we are excited to see where they lead us the rest of the year.”
Senior Lindsay Lindstrom nearly tallied a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Superior, Wis., native added three assists, two blocks and one steal.
