MARQUETTE, Mich. The Northern Michigan soccer team saw its season end today with a 3-0 loss to Tiffin in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Quarterfinal match.
Tiffin’s Shelly Rogers put the Dragons on the board first with an
unassisted goal at the 16th minute. Rogers maneuvered her way around three NMU defenders before taking a shot from inside the box.
“At the end of the season, typically the team the scores first ends up
with the win,” said head coach Matt Granstrand. “Scoring first lets the
team get all of the nerves out.”
The Dragons Alexandra Sevastakis put Tiffin up by two goals with an
unassisted shot from 3-yards out at the 50th minute.
Sevastakis scored her second goal on the afternoon at the 69th minute with a shot off of her own rebound.
Tiffin outshot NMU 13 (9) 11(8). The Wildcats held the advantage on
corner kicks at 5-2. Kylee St. Arnauld and Kim Rietveld each had two shots on goal for the ‘Cats.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Baker turned away eight of the 11 shots she
faced during the afternoon. Tiffin goalkeeper Hayley Coppola made nine saves.
“I’m happy with our season,” said Granstrand. “We won 10 games, finished where I thought we would in the division and made the conference tournament.”
NMU finishes the season 10-6-3 overall and in second place of the GLIAC north division.
