USOEC Boxing Program TKO\’d
THE USOEC BOXING PROGRAM HAS SUSPENDED ITS OPERATIONS FOR ONE YEAR.
THE USOEC GAVE USA BOXING TWO DEADLINES– ONE IN EARLY JULY– AND ONE IN AUGUST– TO FUND A FULL–TIME BOXING COACH, WHO WOULD BE AL MITCHELL.
BOTH DEADLINES PASSED, AND USA BOXING HAS MOVED ON WITHOUT THE USOEC BOXING PROGRAM, PREPARING ITSELF FOR THE 2012 SUMMER GAMES.
WITH NO DEAL IN PLACE WITH USA BOXING, THE USOEC BOXING PROGRAM HAS RELEASED ITS 10 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THIS YEAR TO OTHER USOEC PROGRAMS, SUCH AS WRESTLING, AND THEY WILL SUSPEND THEIR BOXING OPERATIONS FOR ONE YEAR.
THE USOEC WAS BROUGHT TO MARQUETTE IN 1965.
20 YEARS LATER, IT WAS DEEMED AN OFFICIAL OLYMPIC TRAINING CENTER, JOINING COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO
AND LAKE PLACID NEW YORK AS THE OTHER OFFICIAL TRAINING SITES.
CURRENTLY, IT HOSTS OVER 100 RESIDENT COACHES AND ATHLETES.
