MTU hockey clipped by Lakers
The Michigan Tech University hockey team rallied in the third period against Lake Superior State on Friday night, but the Huskies would lose the game, 4-3.
Tech trailed 3-1 in the second period, when Huskies forward Ryan Furne scored his fifth goal of the season. Reid Sturos and Riley Sweeney were each credited with an assist. Michigan Tech would tie the game in the third period, when C.J. Eick scored his fourth goal of the season on a pass from Blake Pietila. Alex Petan was also credited with an assist on the play.
With 8:17 to go in regulation, Lakers forward Austin McKay beat Huskies goalie Jamie Phillips for his first goal of the season. Phillips made 22 saves for Tech. He replaced Phoenix Copley for the second and third periods.
The loss drops the Huskies to 6-11-6 this season. Tech will try for the series split Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
