Ishpeming VFW post closed until further notice

A gathering place for veterans in western Marquette County is closed until further notice. The doors of the Ishpeming VFW post have been padlocked.

The VFW Department of Michigan issued a suspension order on November 7th, but the post had been open after that date. One of our cameras was there for a Veterans Day observance several days after the suspension was handed down.

A person affiliated with the post says the post committed three violations. No details are available about those violations.

However, VFW Department of Michigan officials say when a post is suspended, it’s usually for a failure to obey national and state bylaws, or for any violations of laws or state ordinances. Some of those ordinances govern a liquor license, liability insurance and being properly bonded.

VFW officials say a post will remain suspended until the issue, or issues, that led to the suspension have been rectified. They say a post typically has 90 days to do so before its charter is officially revoked.
