Dollar Jilbert ice cream helps Little League
Jilbert Dairy is teaming up with Marquette Little League for a sweet deal to help raise money for youth baseball.
Today, from 1 to 10 p.m., you can swing into Jilbert and scoop up an ice cream cone or root beer float for just a dollar. All of the proceeds will go to help pay for uniforms, equipment, field fees, and several scholarships that give kids who can’t afford to play a chance to get in the game.
“For four years Jilbert’s has worked with Little League to provide a fundraiser to help us raise money to fund little league throughout the year. This is our fourth year, our first with the dunk tank, and we hope everyone in the community comes out and participates,” noted
Gordy Warchock, the Vice President of Little League for Girl’s Softball.
For a dollar a throw, kids young and old can try to dunk players in the league, principals from local schools, and big name coaches like Derek Swajanen of the Marquette Blues. In year’s past, they’ve raised close to $2,000 depending on the weather, and today provided the perfect setting.
“I’d like to get to where we can do this every other year and present little league with a check for $5,000. That’s my goal, my $5,000 goal. Biggest thing is we’re here for the community. We’re a community-based organization which is just huge, and our community is Drummond Island to Ironwood, from Copper Harbor to Menominee. That’s our community,” explained Gordon Mielke, Sales Manager for Jilbert.
The ice cream social also features girls and boys bike door prizes courtesy of mBank. If you’re lactose intolerant, additional donations are greatly appreciated.
