Iron Co. fugitive captured after escaping
An Iron River man is back in police custody after making a brief escape.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Department says he’s 22 years old.
He ran away from a deputy on Tuesday after being taken from the Iron County Jail to NORTHSTAR Health System for medical treatment.
Police say the suspect ran to Ice Lake and tried to swim away, then returned to shore and continued running.
A Michigan State Police canine unit and the Iron River Police Department helped deputies search for him.
After an hour of searching, he was found lying down in tall brush a short distance from where he’d last been seen.
Officers arrested him without further incident, and the suspect is awaiting arraignment in 95B District Court on an escaping lawful custody charge.
