U.P. student invited to Governor’s Education Summit
LANSING—An Upper Peninsula native, Kathryn Danielson, will be among ten recent college graduates featured on Monday at the 18th Governor’s Education Summit in East Lansing. The Governor’s Education Summit brings together hundreds of education, business and workforce professionals from across Michigan for a day of presentations, featured speakers and opportunities for collaboration.
“Michigan has the best students in the nation and they deserve an education that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century economy,” said Governor Rick Snyder. “Michigan schools and Michigan job providers have the opportunity to work together to help prepare students to have successful careers and be part of the reinvention of Michigan. I’m looking forward to hearing from a number of students, who’ll share their experiences and perspectives at the Education Summit.”
The theme of this year’s Summit, “Collaborate. Create. Connect”, continues the conversation from the Governor’s Economic Summit held in Detroit in March to discuss talent needs in Michigan.
Danielson, a Baraga native, is a recent graduate of Michigan Tech and chose to stay here in Michigan, instead of seeking employment out-of-state.
Started under Governor Engler, continued through the Granholm Administration and now into the Snyder Administration, the Governor’s Education Summit has grown into an important day-long event, attracting more than 500 participants and speakers from across Michigan and the country in a discussion about improving educational opportunity for Michigan students, from the pre-school years all the way to the college campus.
The Summit’s keynote presentation will be delivered by Dane Linn, Vice President of Education and Workforce at Business Roundtable (BRT). Linn has decades of experience as an educator, a school administrator and policy leader and works to advance the BRT’s positions on education reform, U.S. innovation capacity and workforce preparedness.
The 18th Annual Governor’s Education Summit is hosted by the Michigan Foundation for Education Leadership and the Michigan Education Alliance (a group of leaders representing all vested parties in education through their organizations and associations) and will take place at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing.
