Chimney safety
With winter in full swing, fireplaces across Upper Michigan are a nice way to warm the house. But, there are some vital safety tips to remember.
It’s important to have your chimney swept at least once a year to clean out any debris. When using the fireplace, make sure the firewood is dry. And, don’t use anything that may accelerate the fire.
Roaring sounds coming from the fireplace or wood stove is an indication of a possible chimney fire. Other signs of a problem: black smoke or sparks coming out the top of your chimney.
