GLIAC Women's B-Ball Preseason Polls

BAY CITY, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team was picked second in the North Division of the 2012 GLIAC Women’s Basketball Poll. Senior Sam Hoyt<http://michigantechhuskies.com/sports/wbkb/2012-13/bios/hoyt%20sam00.html>and Junior Taylor
Stippel<http://michigantechhuskies.com/sports/wbkb/2012-13 \/bios/stippel%20taylor00.html>were selected to the North Division Preseason Team.
Ferris State was picked first with 174 points and 15 first place votes. Tech received 164 points and eight first place votes.
“The pre-season voting for the team is an honor,” said head coach Kim Cameron. “We haven’t proved anything yet, but together we are working to get better everyday. We have a great group of young talent combined with experienced upperclassmen.”
Senior Sam Hoyt was named to the preseason first team after earning All-GLIAC first team honors and All-American honors in 2011-12. The Arkansaw, Wis., native ranked sixth in the league in scoring with 15.7 points and fourth in the league in assists (113).
Junior Taylor Stippel garnered preseason second team honors. The Stillwater, Minn., native logged substantial minutes at the end of the 2011-12 season. She scored a career-high 18 points against Lake Erie and shot 51-percent over the last six games.
“We are very proud of the girls for their preseason honors,” said Cameron. “Sam is our captain, and she expects more from herself than anyone else. We are looking forward to her leadership in every aspect this year. Taylor had a very strong finish to the end of the 2011-12 year, and we are expecting her to continue to grow and develop.”
The team opens with an exhibition game at Green Bay Saturday (Nov. 3) and will host Concordia-St. Paul to open the regular season Nov. 10.
