NMU Golf team hosted weekend meet

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University golf team got the fall portion of the 2012-13 schedule rolling over the weekend, hosting its only meet of the year, the NMU Intercollegiate Match Play, on Greywalls Golf Course at Marquette Golf Club. The Wildcats finished Sunday (Sept. 9) with a team winning percentage of 44 after taking 24-of-54 matches.
Jared Reid led the ‘Cats, winning five of his six matches. Patrick Sweeney was the other Northern golfer to have an above 500 winning percentage, taking four of six.
Mike Murphy and Ben Johnson each won three and lost three matches. Aryton Mantha (2-for-6), Adam Huss (2-for-6), Austin LeGault (2-for-6), Nick Skajewski (2-for-6) and Mitch Francois (1-for-6) also played in the two-day event.
Brian Krupo of UW-Parkside was the lone golfer to win all six of his matches. Reid Dean of Wayne State was the runner-up, winning 5-for-6.
Saginaw Valley (67 percent), Wayne State (64 percent), Grand Valley State (57 percent), UW-Parkside (53 percent), Findlay (50 percent), Northwood (48 percent), Lake Superior State (47 percent), Lake Erie (47 percent) and Finlandia (22 percent) also participated in the event.
The ‘Cats get back to action on Sept. 21-23 in South Haven, Mich. at the GLIAC North Neutral on Hawkshead Golf Course.
