Attorney General's Community Forum on MGH Sale
The Attorney General’s office held a community forum in Marquette Monday evening. The session was about the proposed sale of Marquette General Hospital to Duke LifePoint. The public was given the chance to get their questions answered.
The AG’s office is reviewing the proposed sale to determine if it is in the best interest for all parties involved. Representatives from MGH and Duke LifePoint were on hand tonight to help provide clarity for the public regarding the sale.
MGS says the transaction will allow the hospital to gain access to capital and to expand services. MGH officials say the new capital will be used to update aging facilities and meet pension liabilities.
If the sale is approved, the hospital will move from tax exempt to a tax paying entity within the community.
Most patients of the hospital, employees and local residents at the meeting seemed to be in favor of the sale.
The Attorney General’s office will continue to review public comments about the sale until August 10th. Comments may be e–mailed to agmgh@mi.gov.
