Marquette Jet's Pizza Opens
A Michigan pizza chain trying to branch out has encountered some obstacles.
But those hurdles have been cleared, and it’s now open on West Washington Street in Marquette.
Jet’s Pizza is based in downstate Sterling Heights.
The company has more than 250 stores in 15 U.S. states, but it’s mainly a Michigan enterprise — more than 150 of its stores are in the Lower Peninsula.
The Marquette store is the first Jet’s location in the U.P., and it has 31 employees.
For more than a year, many in the Marquette area wondered when, or even if, Jet’s would open.
Jet’s Pizza Marquette co-owner Steve Cueli says the store space on West Washington Street had to be expanded and extensively renovated, and one of his business partners also died in a boating accident; those events combined to put the store on hold.
Steve says his partner in the Jet’s store is a Baraga native and recent NMU graduate who tried Jet’s elsewhere and thought it would be a great fit near his alma mater.
