Re-zoning discussed at Ishpeming City Council Meeting
There was standing room only at the Ishpeming City Council meeting tonight. Many community members were in attendance to voice their questions and concerns.
A public hearing was held to discuss the rezoning of the C.L. Phelps Property. Currently the Ishpeming School District owns this property and has been working with the G.A. Haau Development Company on a deal for them to purchase this property. They would then turn it into amultiple family affordable housing complex.
This development company completed a similar project, Park Place, in Sault Ste Marie. Council members and community members are in favor of finding a new use for the C.L. Phelps Building. But, fear remains in what a multi–family housing unit would mean for the city.
The council adjourned this issue until Friday, February 25th.
