Texting Leads to Iron Co. Accident
A car accident in Iron County this morning may have been the byproduct of distracted driving.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Department says it happened in Stambaugh Township just before 9 am Central time.
Deputies found a vehicle well off the road in a tree line on County Road 424, just west of Scott Lake Road.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 24–year–old Cassandra Dubois of Iron River.
Police determined that Dubois was texting at the time of the accident.
Her car hit a utility pole and then stopped in a stand of trees and brush.
Dubois required non–life-threatening emergency treatment to her head, neck and chest at NORTHSTAR Health System.
The vehicle had extensive damage.
Michigan State Police, the Caspian–Gaastra Fire Department and the West Iron County Fire Department helped deputies at the scene.
