Structure fire in Luce County under investigation
Officials are investigating the cause of a fire over the weekend in Luce County.
Several eastern Upper Peninsula Fire Departments worked for several hours to put out a structure fire in Newberry.
Firefighters from Newberry Township responded to the fire on M-123 at around noon on Saturday.
They requested mutual aid from Columbus and Garfield Townships due to the location of the blaze.
Firefighters shuttled water to the scene because there were no hydrants in the area.
The bulk of the fire was knocked down by 1:30 p.m., but firefighters spent several more hours mopping up hotspots.
Luce County Ambulance, Luce County Sheriff’s Auxiliary, SEMCO, and Newberry Water and Light also assisted at the scene.
