Six acres of national park and state forest land burned yesterday.

At around 3 p.m., a wildfire was spotted at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The Coast Guard reported the fire, which was near Twelvemile Beach Campground and along Highway 58.

In a recent press release, Chief Ranger Joseph Hughes was quoted saying, “Thank you to all our agency partners who reported and helped us keep this fire under control. I would like to remind all park visitors to recreate safely. Drivers and visitors should slow down and use caution in the area.”

The fire was put out by Michigan DNR firefighters, Burt Township firefighters, and PRNL  park rangers.

Firefighters were at the park today, monitoring the area and doing mop–up operations.

Low visibility and smoke may affect the area for the next few days.

The fire is still under investigation.
