MARQUETTE — A celebration of Marquette’s local food producers will continue, in a different format.

Marquette’s Local Food Fest is moving online. Although many festivals have been cancelled or postponed, organizers felt it’s important to highlight local food sources, especially during a time like COVID.

“Our food system is really important and resiliency and where we get our food and having sovereignty  over these food choices,” said Alexandria Palzewicz, Lead Coordinator for the food festival. “[It] just feels like a really important topic in the midst of everything going on, so although we didn’t want to gather in person, we understand that our mission and our goals that we have set up through the years are only becoming more prominent and more needed.”

Events begin October 21st, with local produce specials at the Marquette Food Co–op.

Most of the involvement will be social media based, where participants can find out more information on various topics regarding local food.

An online recipe competition is new for this year, where competitors can submit photos of dishes that use local ingredients for a chance to win prizes.
