Pioneer Catholic Cemetery Vandalized

MARQUETTE — The Pioneer Catholic Cemetery located on Pioneer Road in Marquette has recently been vandalized.

The cemetery was refurbished and cleaned up for the public earlier this year, then dedicated in October before being vandalized. Police are still looking for the suspect.

“It recently happened somewhere between the 2nd and 5th,” said Neil Newcomb, Cemeteries Director at Diocese of Marquette. “The cemetery has a large monument that was built as a memorial for those pioneers who helped establish Marquette. There’s about 3000 people buried there now. Any tips that the citizens may have that are familiar with this cemetery direct them to the Police Department. They’re prepared to take any information what so ever regarding the vandalism.”

Anyone with tips or leads regarding this vandalism, contact the Marquette Police Department at 906–228–0400.
