Ladies Night Out in Marquette is collecting donations for the Harbor House

MARQUETTE — Thursday, November 14, there will be a special event that is held every year for women in the Marquette area. Starting November 11, there is a way for everyone to get involved and support a good cause.

The 23rd annual Ladies Night Out will take place on November 14 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Downtown Marquette. More than 80 local businesses participating in the event will be putting on sales, specials, drawings, and lots of other fun activities for women to enjoy.

Ladies may collect a passport to be validated at each participating business Thursday night. When a passport is validated ten times, it can be turned in and the holder will be eligible to win one of several gift baskets worth between $600 and $800 each. Ladies can get a passport for a $2 donation, which goes to the Women’s Center.

“We felt that this night really lent itself to supporting the Women’s Center,” said Tara Laase-McKinney, Promotions and Events Coordinator for the Marquette Downtown Development Authority. “It’s ladies going out and enjoying themselves, and some of the businesses said they wanted to do something that could help the community in some way. So these two things seem to go hand-in-hand, and people really enjoy participating in it and being able to help a good cause at the same time.”

One way anyone in the community can get involved is by donating non-perishable food items and household products. Items donated will be used to re-stock the pantry at the Harbor House, the Women’s Center’s domestic violence shelter. November 11 is the first day you can donate items, and donations will be accepted all the way through Ladies Night Out.

“The Women’s Center always needs goods, and they’re always looking for different ways to support those people who are lodged at the Harbor House,” said Laase-McKinney. “Bringing in goods means that those dollars that are donated can go a little bit further to other things that they may have, whether it be bills or other programs that they run. So it just helps those dollars go a little further for them.”
