Two-vehicle crash leaves one entrapped in vehicle
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — On Monday, September 30th at approximately 8 am, troopers from the Michigan State Calumet post responded to a two-vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of US-41 and Highway Road.
After investigation, it was determined that 77-year-old Lila Hobmeier was turning left onto Highway Road from northbound US-41. 32-year-old Rebekka Mikkola was traveling southbound on US-41, when Hobmeier turned left and struck Mikkola’s vehicle near the driver’s side door.
Mikkola’s vehicle came to a rest in a ditch, and she was unable to exit the vehicle. Calumet Township Fire Department was able to extricate Mikkola, where she was then transported by Mercy EMS to Portage Hospital. She is in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted on-scene by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Calumet Township Fire Department, and Quincy Township First Responders.
