Veterans ORV Ride held at Ishpeming VFW
ISHPEMING — Over the weekend local veterans got a chance to come together for a fun event held to thank them for their service.
On Saturday, veterans from the area as well as those from the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans met at the VFW in Ishpeming for an ORV ride. Veterans brought their off road vehicles and set off for a few hours of riding and camaraderie. The event was hosted by the Ishpeming VFW and the Marquette Democratic Party. Michigan State Representative Sara Cambensy came out to the ride as well.
“There are several members of the Marquette Democratic Party here, several members of the local VFW, and those of us that wanted to give back and do something for the veterans that they don’t normally get to do,” said Representative Cambensy. “This sounded like a perfect event, and all of us came together to make sure it could happen.”
Representative Cambensy said the event was intended to not only honor local veterans, but also to spend time with them while enjoying an activity outdoors.
“We celebrate our veterans on Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day, but this is a time to just go out with them, get to do something enjoyable, see a lot of our landscape here in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and we get to hear stories and get to talk to them and get to know them,” said Representative Cambensy.
The ORV ride kicked off at 10:00 a.m. The event Veterans ORV RideVeterans ORV Ridewrapped up around noon with a special luncheon for the veterans.
