IRON MOUNTAIN — A bill dealing with veteran’s healthcare will soon go into effect, and the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center held an informational meeting to educate veterans.

The meeting, which was followed by a Q&A, helped local veterans understand the many changes brought on by the VA Mission Act.

“The veteran’s VA Mission Act was passed by Congress and signed by President Trump June 6th, 2018,” said Brad Nelson, Public Affairs Officer for the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center. “So this past year, the VA’s been working on putting together the implementation of that, which we will be launching portions of that next week, June 6th, 2019.”

This meeting focused particularly on a new program called the Community Care Program, which has to do with getting healthcare through local means.

The bill also implements a system for access to benefits through eligibility.
